Imagine fulfilling your life by following just a few simple guidelines that had so much thought put into them that anyone can easily follow.

The Reiki Principles were written out by Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, more than 100 years ago. He was inspired to write them when he realized that the people were not learning to live new lifestyles that would encourage them to maintain their new found health after he healed them with Reiki life force energies. They would be back at a later time, ill again, and not caring for themselves. The Reiki Principles provided guidelines for change. They provided direction for positive change in emotion and spirit.

The Reiki Principles

Though there are many variations of the Reiki Principles, the ideals behind them remain the same. They are just as significant today as they were when originally written by Dr. Usui.

"Just for today, do not worry. Just for today, do not anger. Honor your parents, teachers and elders. Earn your living honestly. Show gratitude for every living thing."

Living a Life of Reiki

Incorporating the Reiki Principles into every day life is not that difficult, it just takes a little bit of perseverance and a desire to living a better and guided lifestyle.

  • "Just for today, do not worry." Know that you are taken care of. There is a higher being that is guiding your life and setting everything in perfect motion for you. The future cannot be determined. It is what you do now that impacts what happens next. Every moment is perfect, live today in that perfect moment.
  • "Just for today, do not anger." Anger is a chosen emotion. Anger builds more anger. Negative emotion attracts even more negative emotion. On the premise that every moment is designed to be perfect, decide what can be gained from this emotion, then let it pass. Learn and grow from your experiences.
  • "Honor your parents, teachers and elders." Your teachers, or mentors, are those that have guided and nurtured you along the way. Anyone that you have learned from, or can learn from, becomes your teacher - be it a younger person or older. Everyone is special and has unique qualities to share. Be open to what can be gained from every and anyone.
  • "Earn your living honestly." Work hard and work honestly. Earn your living doing what you love to do. You will receive much more gratification from your work. What you do will be so much more effective in everyone else's lives as well. Cheating anyone is cheating yourself. Be dedicated to yourself and work. Set out to make a difference.
  • "Show gratitude for every living thing." Every living thing is worthy of being in this universe. All living things have a genuine and good purpose for being here. Every living thing is connected to and interacts personally with one another. Be gracious for what life is offering. Have respect for their purpose as well as your own.

A new lifestyle with the focus not only for oneself, but others as well, can be gratifying. Developing a deep respect for life itself and how you can manifest a life of peace and harmony is gratifying to the mind, body and soul. This lifestyle breeds health. You can achieve a bountiful and fulfilled life by taking time to honor the few guidelines set forth by Dr. Usui so many years ago.
